Please Please Me

The Beatles first album, ‘Please Please Me’ was completed on February 11, 1963 but not released until March 22nd. In April, it reached No. 1 and stayed in that place until replaced by The Beatles second album ‘With The Beatles’ that was released November of the same year. On the album, 8 out of the 14 songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. A mix of the two minds created music that was almost magical when you listened to it.

The whole album was recorded in one-13 hour session. John Lennon was sick the day of the recording, almost losing his voice by the time they sang ‘Twist and Shout’.  Paul McCartney remembers later that as they left the studio, John was voiceless and clutching his throat medicine. In 2012, Please Please Me was voted in on Rolling Stones ‘500 Greatest Albums of All Time’ and received the 39th spot.
For being their first album, I really think they did a fantastic job. Having gotten a new drummer just less than a year before and also losing their bass player, The Beatles were able to jump right back into work and produce an excellent album. My favorite song on the album is called ‘There’s A Place’, which is one of the 8 songs written by Lennon and McCartney. It’s my favorite because you can relate to the lyrics quite well, explaining about a place where you can go when you’re feeling bad and need time alone to think about life.
“There is a place
 Where I can go
 When I feel low
 When I feel blue
 And it's my mind
And there's no time when I'm alone”
I’ll be posting a link with each song so you can go and listen to them!

  1. Be careful with your word count. This post is more like 252 for word count. The list, links and lyrics should not be included. In this post they make up almost half of your post!
